Can one of our warlocks test this and see if it works? If so, this is freaking awesome!

Yes Wridel it works. On the rare occasion I get that low on shards I have gone down to SW to stock up. It works because Drain Soul no longer needs to be active at the mobs death to produce a shard. If it is then u are garunted one one but it also now has the chance to produce a shard at anytime while it is channeling. There's also a glyph that increases that chance. I've produced up to four shards from one channeled Drain Soul.
I found this out a while ago while working on the dummies to tweak my spec and practice my rotation. As a side note it'll be rare that u see a lock doin this as there are plenty of opportunities do replenish shards in a raid- especially since Drain Soul becomes the filler of choice when a mob is below 25% hp. At least as affliction anyway. I've had my Drain Soul tick for anywhere between 8 and 18k on a mob. It ticks faster than I can cast Sbolt and it's crits are bigger than my sbolt which is why it is the preferred filler spell between replenishing dots on a mob close to death. =) Dummies have souls to ya know! =P ~D~
