I don't know about the rest of you but I quite often wonder why some people have the names they do for their toons.. I thought this might be a good spot for us to tell the rest of the guild a little bit about how we came up with the names we have..

Hayakon
Hayakon is a variation on Haakon a recurring name for Norwegian kings since the 10th century. I always liked the sound of the name, although I spell it the way I mispronouce it. Norwegians practically swallow the name when they say it. I created the hunter before WotLK, but the look I chose was rather Nordic and I have always enjoyed Norse myths most.
The hell hound pet that I use most often; Barghest, is the name given in the north of England (Yorkshire) to a legendary monstrous black dog with huge teeth and claws. I just love legend. Thats probably why I call my ape Ragnarok (Norse armageddon) and my lion Atlas (the primordial Titan who supported the heavens).
Garalt (rogue, former BC main) is the german pronounciation of my real 1st name. I had a german supervisor while working at a country club who called me by that name, and after my initial peevish reaction, I grew to like it. It has a certain thuggish quality.
Gariak (shadowpriest) is another derivation, but with a vampiric flavor
Torturus (fury warrior). Arcturus (the constellation) was taken, but I am persistent. I've been told it sounds cruel. I think it sounds Roman. I figured people would shorten it to Tor, but to my chagrin, I am called Tort more often than not. A decadent dessert or a civil wrong. Chuckle. What's in a name?

Ophelya
Ill have to agree with taly on this one, never really put much thought into names, just went with what sounded good at the time. Although it took a few attempts to get ophelya from Ofelia. Ethuriel is my rouge..i guess its sorta like a rogue in stealth, all ghosty like. Then we have verdelet my shammy. Shioryi my hunter, her kitty is called snoodlepuss which is a name i call my real kitty on occasion( dont ask why). Asphodelle is my priest which is the name of a herb i think. Seraphyna my lil pally, its kinda angelic an pally's have those cool wings :) - [shes not currently in the guild]. Kittipride is my pvp twink druid..this one was taken from the X-men for those who arent familiar with it. then we have a horde toon Ameltheia ( who rly cares). Ophyrion my lock is a play on opies name. and lastly Ladydeath my DK, i felt it was kinda fitting.

Straed
When I transferred to this server, my old name (Thurl) was already taken. I ended up spending roughly an hour talking to Wridel on Jabber to come up with name ideas. We eventually decided on the first sound being "Strae" (Stray), but it took another 20 minutes to settle on "Straed".
Every other name I've used has been picked within about 1 minute, fairly arbitrarily.

Kalahon
Kalahon - Back when FFIX came out you had the opportunity to change the name of the main character, Zidane. I decided that Zidane wasn't really for me so I sat for a while and thought what name sounded like it would belong to a FF character. After much contemplation the name Kalahon came to me. Sounded good at the time and as I went from game tto game I just named every main character that I played this name. So for as long as I can remember in the gaming world I have been Kalahon.
Necrokal - I figured since I was gonna play a deadite that necro should be in the name (a la Evil Dead). Just added Kal to the end so people would know that it was me.
Kalrissa - Kalahon's little sister. Gotta keep the Kal in the family and it was the first thing that came to me that sounded good.
Bornantheusa - My bank toon. Has his own guild named "Gnomophobic". Another army fellow I knew who played with the name Bornan, a trend in the trade channel started with people creating the Bornan army and they named characters Bornan1 and so on. I decided i didn't like the numbers and as i played around with different things to put with Bornan "theusa"' popped in my mind. Fit the bill and patriotic..... I win.
Unforeseen - My rogue that I never play. Thought the name sounded cool for a rogue. Nothing special about it.

Mabs
Ok. Mabs are the initials of my real name. :) No other raiding toons... have a few others... Mabsinthe (my bank priest), Mabsferatu (my bank warlock), Mabsigula (my priest that is stuck at 38)... Mabskelyn (my 58 DK)... hmmm... :) too much thinking is bad for the brain, so I keep it simple. :)

Citara
Citara- was my first toon and I made her grudgingly after much pushing from my husband Faltov who had been playing for about 6months. I watched alot of Avatar Cartoon with my children and loved it so I made a combination of the main female character Katara and my own Real life name.
Jocelyne-decided to make a toon on the Khaz Modan server.Figured Id make a pretty paladin and was trying desperately, combing over a baby naming book and Fal saved me and gave me the name Jocelyn. I added the E. It means"Little Goth". Jezabella (h)-always admired warlocks and I was curious. Jezabel(evil, bad woman), and bella (poison, belladonna). Had to add the (h) at the end when I moved her from Draka server to Khaz. I made her fair with dark skin, like a witch, made sure not to make her pretty. Xilonen-again liked the idea of rogues and made this toon cute and very similar looks to my best friend Brandy. Xilonen was found in the Baby Naming book. Xilonen was an Aztec Goddess, representing New Corn, or the Maiden. Young girls were sacrificed to her in the summer. Brandy would so be this Goddess.hehe Relished-My bank toon. Always loved this name/word. Just sounds yummy. Sadism- shammy. Always call myself a sadist because of the type of work I do, that name was taken so, Sadism instead. Plus I was leveling with my husband , We made our shammies together, I gave him the name Faleshio, to go with my Sadism.teehee. Carea- DK's came out and i couldnt figure out a witty name, so I gave her my Real Life name. Pronounced , Care- Ah...

Dussk
Dussk - self explanitary really, shadowy half light. Warlock. I also find it to often be one of the most serene and contemplaitive times of the day personally. Incidently I prefer names that sound that their parents realistically would have chosen for their child. This one is borderline in terms of that guidline. 2 s's because the orginal speling was taken and as far as variations go I liked the idea of almost hissing her name. Again appropriate given her class.
Iladriell- I wanted something that sounded elfy. I made this up after a bout half an hr mucking round with sounds. Two notes on this name. Firstly I've since been informed it's a female name by a friend who sometimes defines the word nerd and at others flips it on its head. I rationalised by retorting "well he is a night elf..." Secondly I assumed this name would be shortened to Il (ill) and indeed one or two randoms have done so over the years, but no- that shit wasn't gonna fly with Mr. Belcher. He thought Laddie was much more appropriate. Given at the time Opie and I relied on him for much of our, knowledge, gear and fun the similarites to a certain canine name possibly proved him right- though I'm sure it was not a deliberate pun nor was it taken as one. =)
Enkiell- the "ell" and "Ill" sounds are a common occurance amoung many of my alts, this is another example. It is similar to the name Anne Rice gave to the Father of all Vampires in her books, Queen of the Damned and The Vampire Lestat, "Enkil" Though this was a coincidence I realised later when rereading the novels. ~note. Due to my own considerations and the 'encouragment' of others I have now recustomised Enk and to suit the more feminine visage have also changed the name to Inomarru. Ino is an Inuit term for spirits both animate and inanimate and both malevolent and benevolent (holy/ Shadow). Marru was a suggestion from Opie, sounding a little like Narru and being a dranei she had a giggle about me rezzing people with my "gift of the Marru."~
Those are my main toons. Most of my others are inconsequential and are names I originally created at the time. The exceptions being my Horde Shammy Mirugen taken from the name of a god or spirit in some culture (I can't remember) and my DK, Molokamae, a bastardisation of the name Moloch. Moloch is part of the name of a god who devours children amoung other evil things. Other toon names include Ellemeth (Bloodelf priest), Caul (Tauren Druid, though originally an undead lock) Saynt(Undead lock), Tryp (undead lock, Dranei Pally), Alarum (Undead priest), Alambra (undead mage) and Illellemai (Dranei Shaman). There are others but they're either still level 1 or under deep cover. =P

Namicco
Namicco is my only toon on Khaz Modan at the moment. How I arrived at this name is a little involved so here goes... A long time ago I had watched a horror movie and it was titled Necronomicon (The book of the dead). Recently on Antonidas my previous server I created a shadow priest named Nomicon after the movie. I was so stoked the name was available cuz it sounded like a kick ass name. But when I switched to Khaz Modan alas, it was taken so I reluctantly settled on Namicco *heavy sigh*

Llokee
Llokee
Transfering over as we speak from Whisperwind. Referred by Mandrexx as he told me your Raid Nights are Fri and Sat. perfect with my schedule.
Llokee is in two part. Lee (middle name) Lockhart (last name), hence two merged to form *deep voice* LLOKEE. Coming from Whisperwind and 3 years later, I needed a change...Previous guild Luminous, as i knew most of them...
Mandrexx I know personally. As he suggested this guild being a good one. As I'm not even a member yet I do have high hopes.
I'm a Lev. 80 Huntard SV. 5933gs I pull between 8-10k single target and 12-14k aoe. I was and still am a revered Hunter of Whisperwind for it is the only toon I've ever played. That has it's pro's and cons. Jack of all traits, Master of one!
Hope to see all of ya soon 8) |
