Blue post:

As many of you know the next major content patch will include some very exciting things, such as Ulduar, a new epic raid dungeon, a wealth of new items, and much more. We thought players would especially enjoy reading just a few of the class changes we're currently planning. Please keep in mind, that this list is not at all comprehensive, and more importantly subject to change.

Divine Spirit – this spell is now a core ability available to all priests.

(Nice change although Blizz intends to nerf mana regeneration and spirit so we'll see how this plays out.)

Discipline has access to a new talent, Power Word: Barrier. (Think of it as Power Word: Shield for your whole group).

(This says group and not raid so I assume they really mean group only.  The guild currently doesn't have a discipline priest and I've never specced into discipline so I'm not sure how really valuable this would be in a raid situation.  It certainly could be great in 5 mans though.)

Several area of effect (AOE) heal spells have been improved:

Prayer of Healing can be cast on any groups in your raid party.

(Now this is awesome.  POH is a very powerful heal although its a mana hog.  Being able to cast it on any group in a raid would be great.)

Holy Nova’s mana cost has been reduced.

(Uh, ok.  I never use holy nova but whatever.)

Circle of Healing now heals for more.

(First they nerf it and then they buff it. )

Shadow priest PvP survivability has been improved: Shadow Form now reduces magic as well as physical damage. Dispersion now removes snares.

(I don't do PVP.)

Penance – this spell can now be targeted on the priest.

(Again,  I've never specced into discipline.  Self-targetting seems to be a good idea.)

Serendipity – this talent now reduces the cast time of Greater Heal and Prayer of Healing when Binding Heal or Flash Heal are cast.

(From Wowiki: "Currently serendipity is a passive priest spell which returns a percentage of mana to the priest if they overheal a target using either Greater Heal or Flash Heal. The amount of mana returned depends on how many points are invested into the talent and is also depedent upon the actual costs of both Greater Heal and Flash Heal.  This talent is obviously beneficial for a priest of any sort but it perhaps truly shines currently with a Flash Heal raid healing priest, coupled with Glyph of Flash Heal, whose worry for overhealing costs are no longer much of an issue."

Me:  The above wowiki description is my situation in a nutshell.  The change to Serendipity apparently eliminates the mana return and instead reduces cast time.  At least I assume it won't both reduce cast time and mana required.  Currently, I don't use greater heal much because the cast time is too long and the heal to small to justify using it over a flash heal especially since mana is no issue.  POH on the other hand has a long cast time too but it heals so much more than greater heal (although limited to my group) that its worth using in the right situation.  So this change to serendipity may well be a buff.  The issue is just how much Blizz intends to nerf mana regeneration.)

We are also working to give Holy additional PvP utility.

(I still don't do PVP.)

Not mentioned in the enumerated 3.1 changes are chronic priest problems such as:

1.  Shadowfiend is unrealiable to say the least

2.  Divine hymn and hymn of hope are both useless.

3.  Guardian Spirit (our 51 point talent, no less) lasts for too short a time (10 seconds) to hope to be any use.  According to forum posters, its glitched and doesn't really work even when its used at the correct moment.  I have no idea.  I don't think I've ever been able to see any benefit the few times I"ve tried using it.

4.  Lightwell is useless
